The General Enmity CD was the first effort after two years of silence from Algaion after the recording of the Vox Clamentis MCD in 1995. This time Mårten and Mathias took help from other musicians and completed the line-up. Mathias’ fellow bandmate from Vergelmer - Tobbe Leffler - joined in on guitar. A drummer that was local to the band (unlike Peter who lived a days trip away) - Eric Krona - enabled the band to actually start rehearsing on a regular basis, something they had not done prior to this. General Enmity marks an immeasurable progress from the raging black metal of their previous releases. Since every song if different from the other it is hard to put a label on it. It is usually referred to as power metal even if that term only makes justice to some of the songs. There are also traces of Death Metal, Doom and regular heavy metal. This album was unlike the first two recordings form Algaion not recorded in the Abyss studio but in a studio run by a TV sound engineer who had never worked with this kind of music before. This fact ensures that the entire sound of this album is not like anything else you have every heard.
